Several flights were delayed and others canceled in Miami on Thursday, as Tropical Storm Emily drew closer to the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
American’s 10 a.m. flight to Port-au-Prince was delayed as well as its afternoon flight to Punta Cana. Insel Air’s morning flight to Port-au-Prince also was delayed.
American canceled its afternoon flight from San Juan and two of its morning flights from Santo Domingo.
American extended the rebooking and travel deadline for customers affected by Emily to Aug. 15, a change from the Aug. 12 date posted Wednesday.
The storm stalled overnight off the southwest coast of the Dominican Republic but is expected to cross the island later today and possibly turn northwest towrd Florida.
Conditions in the Dominican Republic and Haiti are expected to worsen as torrential rains will produce mudslides and flooding, according to the National Hurricane Center.
