Grand Cayman’s newest attraction also is the island’s tallest.
The Observation Tower at Camana Bay stands 75 feet high and offers 360-degree views across Seven Mile Beach, George Town and the marine parks of the North Sound.
The journey to the top of the tower is via a double-spiral staircase that climbs alongside a floor-to-ceiling tile mosaic that depicts the reefs and sea life of the Cayman Islands. Visitors also have the option of taking the elevator.
The mosaic was constructed of more than three million tiles in 114 colors.
The tower is open daily from sunrise to 10 p.m.
Since the attraction is free, visitor numbers are not available, although tourism officials report heavy traffic since it opened last fall.
Camana Bay, a master-planned residential and commercial development, features shops, restaurants, a six-screen cinema, apartments, townhouses and a town center for pedestrians only.
Still to come are several boutique hotels and a marina.
