The H10 Hotels and Princess Hotels & Resorts brands will debut in Jamaica by 2021.
H10 Hotels will build 1,000 rooms in Trelawny near Montego Bay at a cost of approximately $250 million. The company currently has 55 hotels in 18 destinations.
Princess Hotels & Resorts, with 19 properties, plans to construct 2,000 rooms in Hanover near Negril, at a cost of $500 million.
Both companies plan to break ground this month.
Jamaica's current room stock is 30,000, according to Donovan White, director of tourism. "Jamaica aims to have 15,000 additional rooms by 2022," he said.
"More rooms mean more visitors, and more visitors mean more foreign exchange earnings and economic growth," White said.
In the current pipeline are 7,500 rooms that, in addition to the H10 and Princess projects, include a 220- room Marriott by Sandals in Kingston and a 3,000-room Karisma resort in St. Anne near Ocho Rios. Recently opened properties in Montego Bay include the 465-room Excellence Oyster Bay, which already announced plans to add 20 over-the-water bungalows, and the 124- room S Hotel.
