'Love Boat' II to Air in Fall

LOS ANGELES -- The "Love Boat" will sail on.

Substantial audience ratings during the just-finished trial run of "Love Boat: The Next Wave" prompted the UPN network to pick up its option for the fall season.

The show, starring Robert Urich and shot largely on Princess Cruises' Sun Princess, will move to a new night and time, anchoring the network's prime-time Friday programming at 9 p.m.

The original "Love Boat" series ran from 1977 to 1986 and is acknowledged to have created a new market not just for Princess but for cruising in general.

It was produced by Aaron Spelling, who also is executive producer of the new series.

Rick James, Princess' senior vice president of sales and corporate communications, said it was good news for the industry that the show apparently communicated the glamour of today's newer, larger cruise vessels.

"The show opens the eyes of noncruisers to how much fun cruising can be," James said. "We look forward to a long and successful run."
