'Unspecified damage' cancels Galaxy sailing

NEW YORK -- Celebrity Cruises canceled a 14-night northern Europe cruise aboard 1,870-passenger Galaxy due to unspecified "damage to the portside propeller," according to a company statement.

Celebrity officials were unavailable for further comment on the how the propeller was damaged.

Galaxy returned to port shortly after leaving Amsterdam, Netherlands, Saturday, and Celebrity later canceled the cruise, which was originally slated to end June 15.

Galaxy will instead enter drydock in Hamburg, Germany. Celebrity expects Galaxy to resume sailing on June 16. Guests on the canceled cruise are being flown home and "assisted with other travel plans," according to Celebrity.

Guests also will receive refunds and free cruises on future 14-night sailings.

Travel agent commissions are protected. Celebrity has established a help desk in Miami at (888) 826-8495 to handle inquires related to the canceled cruise.
