Asia-based StarDream Cruises has implemented a fuel surcharge.

The daily fee applies to new bookings and was implemented March 20.

Rates vary by ship and itinerary, according to StarDream. Singapore departures on the Star Voyager, for example, had the equivalent of about a $12 daily surcharge per passenger when the policy was implemented. Its departures from Hong Kong had the equivalent of about a $25 daily surcharge.

"This surcharge will be reviewed in line with fuel price movements and may be adjusted downward if prices ease or revised for new bookings should prices continue to rise," the company wrote in a notice to guests.

StarDream Cruises operates two cruise lines: StarCruises and Dream Cruises.

U.S.-based cruise lines have not implemented fuel surcharges.
