The Carnival Spirit, which rode out a fierce storm off the eastern Australia coast on Tuesday, was permitted to dock on Wednesday when Sydney Harbor reopened.

The harbor and port were closed because of high winds and large waves.

Because passengers couldn’t disembark until Wednesday, Carnival had to alter the Spirit’s next cruise. A modified seven-day sailing won’t visit Mare in the Loyalty Island of New Caledonia.

Passengers on the modified cruise received a one-day refund of their cruise fare and an onboard spending credit of 50 Australian dollars.
