Carnival Cruise Lines is testing a new program that allows passengers to pay for perks such as priority embarkation, early cabin availability and express luggage delivery.

The new “Faster to the Fun” pilot program is being tested on the Carnival Imagination starting Aug. 20, and the Carnival Liberty beginning Aug. 25.

For $49.95 per cabin, all occupants of that cabin will receive the Faster to the Fun benefits, including priority dinner seatings and tender availability, choice of early or late debarkation, and express access to the ships’ guest-services desk for assistance during the cruise.

Carnival said the program was developed based on extensive passenger surveys, indicating a strong interest in a fee-based package of priority access and benefits, a practice made common by airlines over the last few years.

The top-level members of Carnival's loyalty program, the VIFP (Very Important Fun Person) Club, will get all the benefits of the Faster to the Fun program available free of charge.

The program is currently available for purchase on Carnival Imagination and Carnival Liberty cruises via the shore excursion section of Carnival.com. It is not commissionable to travel agents.
