Carnival Cruise Line said the Carnival Fascination will redeploy from San Juan to Mobile, Ala., starting Jan. 16, 2022.
The Carnival Fantasy, currently operating four- and five-day cruises from Mobile, will remain there through January 2022. Carnival said it will announce plans for the Fantasy's new itineraries in the coming months. The Fascination will take over the Fantasy's itineraries in Mobile.
The Fascination has been in San Juan for the past five years. Carnival said it is in the process of evaluating whether to base another ship there starting in 2020 and expects to make that decision in the coming months as well.
Both ships are among the oldest in Carnival's fleet, with the Fascination entering service in 1994 and the Fantasy in 1990. The change will bring to the Mobile market more balcony accommodations, a Bonsai Sushi Express venue, the pharmacy-themed Alchemy Bar and a Cherry On Top sweets shop.
"We have worked with the Mobile community over the last several years to successfully build demand and create this opportunity for a newer ship to enter the market," said Fred Stein, Carnival's vice president of revenue planning and deployment, in a statement.
