Three crew members on the Costa Europa died when the ship collided with a pier while docking Friday morning in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Costa Cruises said.

The Italian cruise line also confirmed that three passengers and one crew member were taken to a local hospital after the accident, which occurred at 4:45 a.m. local time.

Local officials said that the deceased crew members were from India, Brazil and Honduras, reported the Associated Press. Costa has not confirmed their nationalities.

Costa said the damage to the 1,488-passenger ship occurred on its right side, and that all passengers have disembarked and are in hotels. British newspaper The Sun has photos of the damaged ship.

The 55,000-ton Europa was on an 18-day cruise from Dubai to Savona, Italy, with 1,437 passengers onboard.

U.K.-based Thomson Cruises is slated to charter the 25-year old Europa for a 10-year term, beginning in April. The Europa joined Costa in 2002, coming over from sister brand Holland America Line (both cruise lines are owned by Carnival Corp.).
