Costa Mediterranea moves to Brazil for winter '08-'09 season

Costa Cruises said the Costa Mediterranea will be redeployed to Brazil for the winter 2008-2009 season, joining the Costa Magica in the region.

Costa early this month announced that it would reassign the Costa Mediterranea from Fort Lauderdale where it sailed a Caribbean route, following the winter 2007-2008 season. At the time, Costa did not reveal the new location but said that the ship would be placed in "a different key core market, allowing Costa to reinforce its strategic global positions."

The Mediterranea will join the Magica, which will spend a second season in Brazil in 20082009, offering trips out of Santos. The Magica will sail north to Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, and Ilhabela. Itineraries for the Mediterranea, which will be in South America for the first time, have not yet been determined.

In addition, the Costa Marina will also be in South America, sailing out of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on various routes south to Patagonia and north to Brazil.
