Cruise Lines Say Growth Rose 6%

NEW YORK -- The North American cruise industry grew by 6% last year, to 4.66 million passengers, reversing passenger declines in 1995 and 1994, CLIA reported.

The growth was in line with a 5.75% net growth in lower berths in 1996.

CLIA reported the industry's capacity utilization was 88%, up from 86% in 1995 and equal to the record set in 1990.
