Holland America names Marlee Maitlin Noordam's godmother

SEATTLE -- Holland America Line (HAL) tapped Academy Award-winning actress Marlee Matlin as godmother for HALs new Vista-class ship, the Noordam, which will homeport in New York when it debuts this winter.

The Noordam will make its maiden voyage after a Feb. 22 ceremony to dedicate the ship in New York, and will serve the southern and eastern Caribbean with 11 sailings.

Matlin, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for her work on the film Children of a Lesser God, has starred in 19 movies and several television programs. She also serves as a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross.
