MSC Group is developing part of the Grand Lucayan Resort on Grand Bahama Island into a beach club for cruisers, expected to open in 2028.
The beach club will sit on a 20-acre beachfront portion of the property, and preliminary construction work launched this week, said Phylicia Hanna, director of investment for the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.
MSC Group subsidiary CTL Maritime is leading the project.
It is one of a series of recent MSC investments in the Bahamas; the company is also developing a new cruise pier complex in Freeport Harbor and a second private island called Sandy Cay next to its existing one, Ocean Cay.
Concord Wilshire Capital purchased the 56-acre Grand Lucayan Resort property last year with plans to redevelop a portion of it into a cruise destination with a waterpark and beach for passengers of all visiting cruise lines. It also had plans to have a casino, hotel and golf course on the property.
Now, different developers are being selected to operate different portions of the property, Hanna said. While MSC has been selected for one section and is beginning construction, plans for other areas are still being negotiated, Hanna said.
