MSC commits to Fort Lauderdale

MSC Cruises has signed a two-year deal to use a berth and terminal at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale.

MSC is guaranteeing 135,000 passengers in the first year of the deal and 160,000 passengers in the second, said Carlos Buqueras, Port Everglades' director of business development.

The Italian cruise line, which intends to expand its presence in North America, said it was meeting with port officials to discuss a long-term agreement.

This winter, the MSC Orchestra will join the MSC Lirica in Fort Lauderdale. During the winter 2009-10 season, MSC expects to have two Musica-class ships, the MSC Poesia and the new MSC Magnifica, sailing Caribbean itineraries.
