MSC Group revealed that its new private island in the Bahamas will be called Sandy Cay, and a rendering shows five coves.

The island, which neighbors MSC's Ocean Cay, is scheduled to open in 2028 for both MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys passengers. The smaller Sandy Cay will provide a luxury experience that is "intimate yet elevated," according to the cruise company.

The island will feature aragonite sand, which is particularly bright and the reason MSC is calling the island Sandy Cay.
MSC Cruises confirmed it was developing the island a year ago. Its foundation is a natural sandbank, but it was built up with the deposits from dredging the channel and turning basin next to Ocean Cay.

While MSC develops Sandy Cay, it is also working to extend the pier at Ocean Cay, which will allow for two ships to dock simultaneously by the end of next year.

It is also adding an adults-only area called Paradise Sands, four new dining venues and new family activities, including a splash pad, ropes course and playground.
