Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has emerged as the high bidder on a
3-acre Alaska waterfront site in downtown Juneau.
Norwegian bested four other bidders, including runner-up
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., according to the Juneau Empire.
Norwegian's bid of $20 million beat RCCL's
reported $13 million bid. The property has an appraised value of $3.6 million.
Norwegian has been investing in its Alaska operation, this
year bringing the Norwegian Joy to sail along with the Norwegian Bliss. It has
an agreement to develop a pier at the Icy Strait Point cruise port of call near
Juneau, and last year opened an upgraded Seattle terminal in partnership with
the port.
The Juneau land has been vacant since it was acquired by the
Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority in the mid-1990s, the Juneau Empire reported.
