NEW ORLEANS -- Carnival Cruise Lines' Holiday departed New Orleans on schedule Oct. 16 after 97 guests out of 1,452, and 53 crew members, experienced symptoms of gastrointestinal illness on the ship's previous cruise.

The Holiday pulled into port early Oct. 16 and underwent "rigorous sanitizing efforts" during its turnaround, the line said.

Carnival said it was in contact with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which is evaluating the matter.

The ship sails four- and five-day cruises to Mexico.
