Port Canaveral begins channel-widening project

Port Canaveral on Friday broke ground on a $7.8 million project to widen and deepen its channel for the next generation of large cruise ships.

The Florida port aims to complete the work by spring 2009.

Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, the Carnival Dream and two new Disney ships have agreed to use Port Canaveral.
