The Sun Princess cruise ship rescued two teenagers near Australia's Kangaroo Island after their kayak went adrift.
A local ferry reported two people in the water near the island, where the Princess Cruises ship was anchored.
The Sun Princess sent a tender to rescue the two teens and recover their kayak.
The cruise line said the rescued persons were tourists on the island with their family that had anchored their kayak to go snorkeling. Due to weather conditions, Princess said, the kayak started drifting offshore and in an attempt to recover it, the tourists became exhausted from swimming.
After a positive assessment from the ship's medical team, the teens were taken ashore to their parents.
In a note commending the rescue, Stein Kruse, CEO of Holland America Group, which includes the Princess brand, wrote, "Just a normal day for our team; rescuing two young girls from likely serious trauma, or possibly even death! Well done!"
