Princess trims booking-option period

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. -- Princess Cruises cut its booking-option period to 24 hours for all cruises booked within four months of departure.

The change requires customers to make their initial deposits within 24 hours of the booking confirmation, rather than seven days, as previously allowed.

The policy goes into effect Aug. 4. Princess said the new policy is designed to help agents close sales.

"Many times after agents have made a big effort in sales and marketing, they lose a sale because they are undercut by a few dollars," a spokeswoman said. "This will motivate customers to make a commitment."

For bookings over four months out, Princess reduced the option period from seven days to three. Bookings made within two weeks of departure must be paid for when it is confirmed.
