Prinsendam shifts routings

SEATTLE -- Holland America Line switched its summer itineraries on the Prinsendam, replacing Mediterranean and Baltic offerings with a series of 14-day Alaska cruises from San Francisco.

HAL canceled 11 voyages in Asia and Europe scheduled to run April 25 through Sept. 20.

With the change, HAL will give up calls in Turkey and a Suez Canal transit and increase its total of Alaska-bound ships to eight.

The change was made "given our overall capacity in Europe ... combined with a strong demand for more sailings from California," said David Giersdorf, HAL senior vice president of marketing and sales.

Instead of leaving April 25 from Hong Kong en route to Singapore, the Prinsendam will sail a 23-day, transpacific cruise from Hong Kong to China, Japan, Russia and Alaska before settling in San Francisco. The vessel then will offer 14-day, roundtrip cruises to Skagway and Hubbard Glacier in Alaska.

A 22-day Panama Canal cruise on Sept. 10 will reposition the Prinsendam to Boston, where it will resume the remainder of its 2003 schedule.
