ABOARD THE OOSTERDAM -- The Prinsendam, Holland America Line's smallest ship, will go into a three-week drydock on Nov. 24 for a $20 million refurbishment.

Richard Meadows, HAL's executive vice president of marketing and sales, said during the line's top producers cruise in Mexico on the Oosterdam, that the ship will be given a new Explorations Cafe, an expanded shopping area and a new meeting room that will be converted to a Club HAL hangout for kids.

The staterooms will feature remodeled bathrooms, new carpeting, larger closets and a new headboard with reading lights

In addition, most public spaces will get new carpeting, the Lido restaurant will get new flooring and the deck covering on the top deck will be replaced. The ship's balconies also will be refurbished with deck furniture to meet SOLAS (Safety of Life At Sea) regulations.

The Prisendam is scheduled to return to service Dec. 16.
