QE2 fails inspection, but cleared to cruise

MIAMI -- THE Queen Elizabeth 2 failed -- barely -- its most recent Centers for Disease Control inspection.

In the Jan. 3 inspection, which was conducted by CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program, the QE2 scored an 85 (it needed 86 to pass).

The CDC found unsanitary conditions in some of the galleys, including "cockroach activity" in the Princess Britannia galley.

The QE2 was cleared to continue its annual World Cruise, and a statement from the line said it "immediately" began remedial work.

The QE2 failed CDC inspections in 2000 and 1997, according to CDC records.
