For your viewing pleasure

Cunard said that the ship's arrival can be seen best from the following locations:

  • The Golden Gate Bridge (vista points on both sides of bridge)
  • Piers 39 and 45
  • Fort Mason
  • San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park's Aquatic Park
  • Crissy Field, within Golden Gate National Parks
  • Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 will make its maiden call in San Francisco during an overnight stay Feb. 4. The overnight visit will be the vessel's only visit to the West Coast in 2007.

Cunard said that it expects thousands of maritime enthusiasts to view the ship as it sails beneath the Golden Gate Bridge at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, surrounded by a flotilla of vessels and escorted by local fire boats.

Cunard added that the QM2 will circle the harbor before docking at Pier 27 at around 8 p.m. The next day, local dignitaries will board the ship for a tour and luncheon prior to an 8 p.m. departure.

"In the midst of an extraordinary waterfront renaissance, San Francisco is uniquely equipped to celebrate Queen Mary 2's maiden call and so we look forward to an enthusiastic welcome," said Carol Marlow, president and managing director of Cunard Line.

The ship arrives on the 26th day of its Around the World in 80 Days voyage. From San Francisco, it will head towards the Asia-Pacific region, visiting Hawaii; American Samoa; Australia and New Zealand; and Hong Kong by the end of February.
