MIAMI -- Royal Caribbean Cruises in May will begin sailing from Cape Liberty Cruise Port, the new name for RCCL's new port facility in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Cape Liberty is just across the harbor from the Passenger Ship Terminal in Manhattan, where the company -- and other cruise lines -- traditionally base cruise ships in New York.

A Celebrity Cruises vessel, the Zenith, will continue to offer a series of sailings from New York, but Royal Caribbean International's Voyager of the Seas and the Nordic Empress will use the Bayonne facility for their summer sailing seasons.

In December, RCCL reached an agreement with the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority to construct and operate a new cruise port facility on the former Bayonne Military Ocean Terminal peninsula -- now renamed the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor.
