Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. said Thursday that it is in negotiations to build a third Oasis-class vessel, but that no agreement has been reached.
The cruise line disclosed the talks in releasing its third quarter financial results. It said it hopes to have an announcement about a new order by the end of the year.
"The Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas have proven themselves to be exceptionally attractive ships by generating the highest guest satisfaction ratings in the fleet coupled with very compelling financial returns," said Richard Fain, chairman and CEO.
Fain said a new ship would only be ordered at a lower per-berth cost than the previous two.
"Ordering another such ship for delivery in 2016, at a lower cost, with better energy efficiency is very consistent with our balanced goals of prudent growth, return improvement and debt reduction."
A newspaper in Finland had reported two weeks ago that there was a deal for a third Oasis ship with the STX shipyard in Turku, but at the time Royal declined to comment on what it termed "rumors."
