Passengers on Royal Caribbean International cruises over 5 nights or longer from the U.S. will have to test negative for Covid-19 prior to embarkation, regardless of vaccination status.

The line said that in "an abundance of caution, and to ensure that our guests, crew and the communities we visit remain healthy," all guests over the age of 2 will have to provide a negative Covid-19 test for all sailings in the U.S. from July 31 to Aug. 31.

The test must be administered no more than three days prior to sailing, and proof of negative results must be shown at check-in.

Previously, vaccinated guests departing on cruises from the U.S. did not need to be tested prior to sailing. The policy change comes as the delta variant is causing a new wave of infections and Covid cases are rising in the U.S.

It also came the same week that six passengers on the Adventure of the Seas tested positive for Covid-19 during routine testing of all guests, Royal Caribbean said. The line said that four of the guests, who are not traveling together, were vaccinated.

Of the vaccinated, three are asymptomatic and one has mild symptoms. The other two guests, who are in the same traveling party, are unvaccinated minors and were asymptomatic.

The guests, who were on the July 24 departure from Nassau, Bahamas, were immediately quarantined and their travel parties and all close contacts were traced and tested negative. Each guest and their immediate travel parties disembarked in Freeport, Bahamas, and separately traveled home via private transportation.
