Windstar Cruises named travel writer and entrepreneur Wendy
Perrin godmother of the Star Breeze, a yacht currently sailing for Seabourn
Cruises as the Seabourn Spirit.
Windstar will take delivery of the
212-passenger ship on April 15 and relaunch it as the Star Breeze on May 6,
following a renovation of public spaces, dining venues and suites.
Perrin is the founder of
WendyPerrin.com, a website that includes her “Wow List” of recommended travel
agents. Perrin also writes for TripAdvisor as its travel advocate. She was the
longtime consumers news editor at Conde Nast Traveler.
“We are thrilled to name Wendy
Perrin godmother of the Star Breeze,” Windstar CEO Hans Birkholz said in a
statement. “She is one of the most respected and influential women in the travel
industry, and has made it her life’s work to provide accurate and inspiring
travel experiences to her readers.”
Perrin will christen the Star
Breeze in a pier-side ceremony in Nice, France. The ship’s inaugural Windstar
cruise will leave Nice on May 6, stopping in Monte Carlo, Portofino and
Portoferraio before arriving in Civitavecchia (Rome) on May 10.
“I can’t wait to experience the
yacht, as well as those charming harbors that only small ships can sail into,”
Perrin said in a statement.
The ship is the second of three
Seabourn ships to join Windstar’s fleet. The Star Legend (the current Seabourn
Legend) will also start sailing for Windstar this May. The Star Pride (formerly
the Seabourn Pride) entered service for Windstar last May.
Xanterra, Windstar’s parent
company, bought all three Seabourn yachts in 2013 and established a schedule
for the vessels’ transfer.
