'Barefoot Man' sings the praises of rum cake

GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman -- You can have your cake and music, too, as long as the cake in question is one of the goodies in the product line of the Tortuga Rum Co.

The latest addition to the line is the Tortuga Millennium miniparty pack that features Barefoot Man's recently released "Three Coconuts" CD, alongside a 16-ounce Tortuga rum cake. A soca tune song, entitled "Tortuga Rum Cake," is the lead track on the 15-tune CD to honor the product that annually tops the charts as the destination's best-selling souvenir.

George Barefoot Man Nowak and his guitar appeared nightly for years at the former Holiday Inn in George Town until it closed a year ago.

In addition to recording 24 albums, the musician-singer currently performs Monday and Friday evenings with his band at the Rum Point Club restaurant at Cayman Kai, where reservations are required.

The CD-and-cake combo is available for $21.50 at any of Tortuga's 17 retail outlets in Grand Cayman, including the company's new headquarters and bakery in George Town, where 5,000 cakes are baked daily.

Other outlets include several cruise ships, other Caribbean islands and mail order, for which delivery charges are extra.
