'Enterprising' new wedding packages for Trekkies

LAS VEGAS -- Take two moonstruck Trekkies, beam them into Las Vegas -- the wedding capital of the world -- set them down inside the Las Vegas Hilton, and stand by as "Star Trek: The Experience" launches a wedding ceremony that's "out of this world" for the bride and groom and up to 30 guests.

A wedding at the Star TrekThe $70 million attraction, which regularly transports visitors aboard the USS Enterprise and into a shuttlecraft, now offers couples two wedding packages that allow them to plight their troths on the bridge of the intergalactic spaceship in the presence of Star Trek characters.

Attraction officials said they decided to offer the packages -- the Admiral's Wedding, priced at $3,000, and the Captain's Wedding, priced at $2,000 -- after they received more than 50 requests for weddings last year. The Admiral's plan includes 90 minutes on the bridge of the Enterprise for rehearsal and ceremony; four Star Trek characters during the ceremony; photography featuring three rolls of film plus negatives; a wedding video, and up to 30 tickets to the "Voyage Through Space and History of the Future" exhibit for the bridal party.

The Captain's package features one hour on the bridge; two Star Trek characters; photography featuring two rolls of film plus negatives, and up to 15 tickets to the "Voyage Through Space and History of the Future" exhibit for wedding party members.

Both packages include the services of an officiant; bouquet and boutonniere for the bride and groom; a commemorative wedding certificate; his and her Star Trek watches; a brass plaque with the wedding date on display at Quark's Bar & Restaurant, and an Encounter 2001 flight kit.

Couples also can book one of two different wedding receptions at the adjoining Quark's Bar & Restaurant. A minimum of 10 people is required.

The Balosnee reception runs $65 per person, while the Haven reception costs $95 per person. Included are an appetizer, an entree, beverages, champagne for the bride and groom, a wedding cake, the services of a wait staff and tax and gratuity.

Brides- and grooms-to-be also can modify their wedding or reception package with a range of extras, including live entertainment, premium bar at reception, champagne toast for all guests, additional flowers at ceremony or reception, photographs at the molecular imaging chamber in the Deep Space Nine promenade, Star Trek favors for guests and extra tickets for the Voyage Through Space and History of the Future exhibit.
