'Magic of Mexico' seminars slated

BEND, Ore. -- The Mexico Tourism Board and Destination Ventures, a meeting planning firm based here, announced dates for the Magic of Mexico seminar series for travel agents.

The destination specialist program consists of half-day, classroom-style seminars focusing on selling Mexico to leisure travelers.

The sessions begin with a general overview of Mexico and move on to trip planning with "insider tips" on making the most out of a Mexico visit.

The seminars will highlight Mexico's special-interest travel options, including sports, ecotourism, spas, honeymoons, weddings, cruising, food and cultural tourism.

The Magic of Mexico seminars are designed to train travel agents to become more familiar with Mexico as a destination. Above, the Metropolitan Cathedral in Mexico City. Participants will receive a 350-page manual and information about Mexico's geography, history, climate, holidays, currency, health and safety tips, shopping, sports, ground transportation, dining and more.

During the break in the sessions, participants will be able to meet with Mexico suppliers at mini-trade shows.

All seminars begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 1:15 p.m. The schedule follows:

  • Feb. 6 at the Hilton Sacramento Arden West, Sacramento, Calif.
  • Feb. 7 at the Santa Clara Marriott Hotel, Santa Clara, Calif.
  • Feb. 8 at the San Francisco Airport Marriott, Burlingame, Calif.
  • Feb. 13 at the Wyndham Baltimore Inner Harbor, Baltimore.
  • Feb. 13 at the Marriott Mountain Shadows Resort, Scottsdale, Ariz.
  • Feb. 14 at the North Raleigh Hilton, Raleigh, N.C.
  • Feb. 14 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Salt Lake City.
  • Feb. 15 at the Sheraton Buckhead, Atlanta.
  • Feb. 15 at the Alexis Park Resort Hotel, Las Vegas.
  • Feb. 16 at the Doubletree Grand Biscayne Bay, Miami Beach.
  • Feb. 20 at the Doubletree Spokane City Center, Spokane, Wash.
  • Feb. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue, Seattle.
  • Feb. 22 at the Doubletree Lloyd Center, Portland, Ore.
  • Feb. 27 at the Hilton Beverley Hills, West Los Angeles.
  • Feb. 28 at the Atrium Hotel at Orange County Airport, Irvine, Calif.
  • March 1 at the Hilton San Diego Mission Valley, San Diego.
  • March 6 at the Sheraton Dallas-Brookhollow, Dallas.
  • March 7 at the Houston Marriott West Loop, Houston.
  • March 8 at the Doubletree Hotel, San Antonio.
  • The seminars cost $35 and can be paid for on line at http://magicofmexico.com.

    Once the agent completes a seminar, he or she will be invited to participate in a familiarization trip to one of 10 Mexico destinations.

    The trips cost $169 per person, double, and include roundtrip air, three or four nights' hotel accommodations, most meals and sightseeing.
