A Tiny Cruise Line finds its small niche in market

DAYTONA BEACH -- Visitors sailing from Halifax Harbor with A Tiny Cruise Line often ask co-owners Capt. Tim Lindner and his wife Kathy where the best place is to see dolphins.

"If I knew that, I'd be a rich man," is Lindner's answer.

Instead, he advises taking as long a cruise as possible, such as the firm's two-hour excursion.

The line's boat is designed to hold up to 18 passengers but usually carries only a dozen for greater comfort.

Various one- and two-hour cruises range in price from $10.50 to $15.50 for visitors ages 13 and older; $6.71 to $8.75 for children ages 4 to 12.

The line's ship is a replica of the 1890s-style fantail boats that often were used on rivers and lakes.

The small boat, with a 10-horsepower engine, glides quietly along, passing islands and estates along the Halifax River.

Group cruises are also available, but discounts are generally not available for groups "because our prices are so low to begin with," said Kathy Lindner.
