Actor named 'ambassador'

LOS ANGELES--Martial arts film star Jackie Chan was named ambassador of tourism to Hong Kong at a Hong Kong Tourist Association event at the Four Seasons Hotel here.

The presentation was announced by Lily Shum, the new regional director for the Americas for the HKTA.

Chan's given name, Chan Kong-sang, means "born in Hong Kong," the actor wrote in his autobiography, "I Am Jackie Chan." Chan shares some information in the book about why his parents, Chinese refugees who fled to Hong Kong, might have given him his name. "I guess my parents weren't very original when it came to names," he wrote. "Or maybe they just wanted to celebrate their relief at making it to Hong Kong."
