Ad Age lauds Gulf Coast P.R. efforts

BILOXI, Miss. -- Advertising Age magazine named the marketing campaign for the Mississippi Gulf Coast one of 1999's "Marketing 100."

The magazine also profiled Stephen Richer, executive director of the Mississippi Gulf Coast CVB, in its June 28 issue.

The article said Richer "revamped the [CVB's] marketing effort by cultivating the support of the region's hotels, restaurants, fishing boats, museums and historical tours."

It described the Gulf Coast as a tourist "hot spot" that "is actually challenging nearby New Orleans for overnight guests."

The Coast was the single destination selected and Richer one of only three travel industry officials honored.

Richer, 53, a New Jersey native, joined the Mississippi Gulf Coast CVB in 1996.
