Aegean yacht cruises set

AMBLER, Pa. -- Valef Yachts is promoting its summer sailings in the Greek islands.

The company, based here, offers weekly scheduled sailings and crewed yacht charters.

Valef Yachts said its most popular itinerary is the Aegean Cocktail, which departs every Friday through October.

The cruise begins and ends in Piraeus with calls in Keos Paros, Santorini, Ios, Mykonos, Tenos and Syros.

Cruise-only rates for the Aegean Cocktail cruise range from $900 to $1,150.

The price covers American breakfast on board, lunch or dinner on board, a captain's dinner, a welcome cocktail and the services of an English-speaking tour leader.

Guests are responsible for drinks on board, port taxes of $25, gratuities for the crew (about 7% of the total cruise price), VAT and transfers.

Dan McNulty, with Valef's charter department, said charters are booking very quickly and that there is more availability on scheduled sailings.

He said there are generally "no more than 30 passengers" on the scheduled itineraries, while the maximum for a charter vessel is 84 guests.

The dress on board is casual, according to McNulty, and he said the cruises attract a mix of guests, including recent college graduates, honeymooners and older couples.

Other scheduled itineraries the line offers are an Ionian cruise and Dodecanese Pursuit cruise.

The firm pays agents a 10% commission for its scheduled sailings and 15% for yacht charters.
