Airport service expanded in the Big Easy

NEW ORLEANS -- After an increase in traffic of almost 5.5% from 1998 to 1999, service options at the airport here are being increased.

Atlanta-based Vacation Express began a nonstop flight from here to Cancun, Mexico, on Feb. 11 using UPS Airlines' converted aircraft to provide twice-weekly charter flights.

Several packages are now available, ranging from three-, four- and seven-night plans at the Cancun Clipper Club to inclusive packages at the Sunset Lagoon.

America West is offering a direct flight on 737s from Phoenix to New Orleans, with roundtrip, daily service set to begin May 3.

At the same time, the new flight schedule will give passengers departing New Orleans access to connections on the West Coast, including 17 in California.

According to this city's Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau, New Orleans is the only city in the United Airlines global network where the carrier offers nonstop service to each of its five hubs: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago and Washington (Dulles).
