Alaska Safari Offers Hiking, Rafting, Wildlife Viewing

GIRDWOOD -- A 12-day safari offered by Alaska Wildland Adventures this year features a variety of backcountry experiences.

Marketed as the Wilderness Lodge Safari, the program provides opportunities for participants to sample hiking, rafting, wildlife viewing, glacier boat touring and sightseeing in some of the state's most spectacular areas.

Priced from $3,895 per person, double, the program is scheduled for six departures June to August. The price includes all activities, local land and water transportation, wilderness lodge accommodations, all meals and guides. Groups are limited to 16, and many of the activities, depending on the group's preferences, occur with fewer than half that many participants.

Alaska Wildland Adventures also offers a shorter version of the program -- the five-day Kenai Backcountry Safari.

Starting at $1,395 per person, double, the itinerary penetrates deep into one of Alaska's most remote and pristine areas, the Kenai Peninsula. Among the activities are hiking, rafting, wildlife photography and kayaking.

The tour is offered nine times from June to September.

In addition to these two packages, the Girdwood-based operator offers eight other programs of various length this summer, including a number of stand-alone wilderness lodge vacations aimed at the independent travel market or at pre- and post-cruise visitors.

Alaska Wildland Adventures was founded in 1977.
