JUNEAU, Alaska -- In an effort to boost its Alaska summer business, Alaska Travel Adventures here extended the deadline for its early-booking promotion through February.

The promotion was set to expire Dec. 21, but company officials stretched the deadline to Feb. 28 for clients "who may have either temporarily postponed travel plans or who are planning to change their plans to include Alaska" after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

"We feel Alaska is a great alternative for those wanting to travel in America rather than overseas next summer," said Bob Dindinger, president of Alaska Travel Adventures.

Under the promotion, clients who book by Feb. 28 will receive 20% off the package rate on the company's itineraries, which can include a Holland America Line cruise and a motor home self-drive component.

The company said the promotion represents a savings of up to $1,126 per person off published rates.

To further drum up business, the company is offering clients a choice between an upgrade to an oceanview cabin for the cruise portion of the tour or a gasoline rebate on the motor home segment.

The company said this bonus represents a savings ranging from about $170 to $960 per itinerary, depending on the package.

Alaska Highway Cruises' self-guided tour packages include a three-, four- or seven-day HAL cruise; use of a fully equipped Class C motor home; reserved RV park sites; a roadside assistance program; a daily itinerary with maps and directions, and airport transfers.

As an example, the firm's 10-night Gold Rush Memories itinerary features an Inside Passage cruise aboard the Ryndam; a drive along the Alaska Highway and through the Klondike Gold Rush territory; two nights at Denali National Park, and a choice of excursions, including a riverboat cruise in Fairbanks and opportunities for fishing, hiking and sightseeing.

Including the early-booking bonus, this itinerary costs from $2,095 per person, double, for a May 23 or Sept. 5 departure.

The company also offers fly-drive packages that qualify for the early-booking and gasoline rebate incentives.

All tours are commissionable at 10%.
