MARCH

16 to 19. St. Patrick's Festival, Dublin. Music, street theater, Skyfest Fireworks, dance, sports, pageants and parades. (Additional St. Patrick's events throughout Ireland.)

APRIL

6 to 16. Dublin Film Festival. Screenings at cinemas throughout the city.

15 to 23. WorldùIrish Dancing Championships, Belfast. The best of Irish dancers performs jigs and reels at Waterfront Hall and other venues.

MAY

20 to June 4. Belfast Summerfest 2000. Entertainment and activities at venues throughout the capital.

25 to 29. Fleadh Nua 2000, Ennis, County Clare. Festival of traditional music, song and dance; concerts, street and pub sessions, workshops, storytelling, lectures, films, competitions, cultural parade.

26 to 28. Sligo Arts Festival, Sligo. Community-based, festival over three weekends; world music, theater, visual arts, street entertainment, fringe events.

JUNE

2 to 5, 9 to 11. Sligo Arts Festival. (See Above)

9 to 11. Walled City Festival, Derry. Millennium celebration; civic parade, homecoming festival.

16. Bloomsday, Sandycove, County Dublin. Annual event at the James Joyce Museum celebrates all things Joycean.

JULY

19 to 30. Galway Arts Festival, Galway. Performing and visual arts; Irish and international theater, street spectacle, music, visual arts, literary and children's events, nighttime parade.

AUGUST

11 to 20. Kilkenny Arts Festival, Kilkenny. Classical music at St. Canice's cathedral, visual arts in the ruins of Kells Priory, outdoor theater in a quarry, readings, events for children, jazz, traditional concerts.

25 to 27. Fleadh Cheoil, Enniscorthy, County Wexford. Celebration of Irish traditional music; nearly 150 competitions for soloists, choral and dance groups, jam sessions.

SEPTEMBER

1 to 3. Appalachian and Bluegrass Music Festival, Omagh, County Tyrone. Musical gathering celebrates the Ulster-Scots origins of Appalachian music; Ulster-American Folk Park.

OCTOBER

19 to Nov. 5. Wexford Festival Opera, Wexford. International artists perform in three major opera productions; recitals, opera scenes and lectures.

27 to 30. Guinness Cork Jazz Festival, Cork. Top name artists perform; nonstop jazz in more than 60 clubs, pubs and hotels; workshops; master classes, and fringe events.

27 to Nov. 12. Belfast Festival at Queen's. Ireland's largest arts festival; theater, dance, visual arts, music, literature and film, jazz and comedy.

30 to 31. Banks of the Foyle Halloween Carnival, Derry. Thousands dress in costume for Ireland's largest Halloween festival.

NOVEMBER

10 to 11 (tentative). Northern Ireland Festival of Racing, Lisburn. Top National Hunt horse racing event features the Ulster Championship Chase and the Ulster Champion Hurdle; Down Royal Racecourse.

DECEMBER

26 to 29. Leopardstown Christmas Festival. Major National Hunt horse racing event and associated festivities; six miles outside Dublin center.
