America West makes scheduling changes

PHOENIX -- America West Airlines, based here, rescheduled eight of its late-night flights to enable more passengers to arrive in or depart from Las Vegas earlier in the evening or in the morning.

Also, the carrier in April plans to increase the number of day and early-evening flights into and out of Las Vegas from 84 to 92 -- more than half of the airline's daily arrivals and departures there.

The following are specific changes to America West's Las Vegas schedule:

  • Daily nonstop flights from Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis were rescheduled from late evening to morning departure times.
  • Flights will arrive in Las Vegas between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

  • Two flights between Las Vegas and the New York area were rescheduled from night to day departures.
  • One 9 p.m. departure to Newark was moved to a 4 p.m. daily departure.

In addition, one 9 p.m. departure from New York (Kennedy) was rescheduled to 8:30 a.m.

  • To meet strong customer demand for morning service from New York (Kennedy) to Las Vegas, flights will depart at 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. each day in addition to two evening departures.
  • Flights from Hartford, Conn.; Tucson, Ariz., and Los Angeles will depart two hours earlier each evening.
  • The flights will arrive in Las Vegas between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Also, service to Hartford will be expanded from four weekly roundtrips to one daily roundtrip.

  • America West Express, which is operated by Mesa Air Group, resumed daily nonstop service between Las Vegas and Palm Springs, Calif., on April 1 using 37-seat DeHavilland Dash 8 aircraft.
  • In addition, through June 10, clients flying coast to coast on America West can schedule a Las Vegas stopover of up to three nights without paying the customary $60 stopover fee.

Tickets must be purchased by April 30 to take advantage of this offer.
