American Eagle to expand air service

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic -- American Eagle will launch daily service from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Herrera and Barahona, Dominican Republic. The airline will operate two flights to Herrera aboard 46-passenger aircraft departing at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., returning at 10:35 a.m. and 5:35 p.m.

One daily roundtrip will be operated to Barahona aboard 64-passenger aircraft departing at 12:45 p.m., returning at 3:05 p.m. Herrera is about 50 miles southwest of Las Americas airport in Santo Domingo, about 10 minutes from the hotel area.

Barahona, on the southwestern coast, has a small tourist center within the city, according to a spokesman for American Eagle. The spokesman said a hotel association in Barahona plans to promote the city as a tourist destination in the upcoming months.

In addition to Barahona and Herrera, American Eagle serves the island with daily flights from San Juan to La Romana, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Santiago and Santo Domingo (Las Americas).
