NEW YORK -- American Airlines decided it will follow through with the service cutbacks for the U.S. Virgin Islands that it warned it would implement when the Virgin Islands Port Authority instituted a 25% increase in airport landing and passenger fees Feb. 1.

Nine flights from American's Boston and New York schedules will be cut in April as will 31 flights from the same markets from May through November.

In other developments, US Airways will add a Saturday flight from Charlotte, N.C., to St. Croix March 15. The carrier currently flies daily between Charlotte and St. Thomas.
