Ameristar Council Bluffs riverboat earns Four Diamond award

"We made a conscious plan to work hard to maintain the level of service and amenities. We made a commitment to it," said a spokeswoman for the casino.

To earn the Four Diamond designation, properties need to "reflect an exceptional degree of hospitality, service and attention to detail while offering upscale facilities and a variety of amenities," according to AAA.

The casino has four restaurants ranging from the casual Americasports Bar & Cabaret to the more elegant Waterfront Grill specializing in steaks and seafood.

Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs opened in January 1996. It is described by the spokeswoman as the state's largest riverboat casino.

The facility recently added a third deck, with 350 slot machines and eight gaming tables. It now has 1,446 slot machines and 51 tables in a 137,000-square-foot casino, the spokeswoman said. The riverboat casino also features a 160-room hotel. The Ameristar Casino Hotel offers 32 whirlpool suites and eight oversize suites.

Friday and Saturday rates through April are $104 for standard rooms, $145 for whirlpool suites and $225 for larger suites. Sunday through Thursday rates start at $84.

The Iowa riverboat operation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ameristar Casinos Inc., a company known for its smaller scaled but high-quality casinos.

The firm's roots go back five decades to a roadside casino in the high plateau country bordering Nevada and Idaho.

In other news, Anthony Taeubel was named senior vice president and general manager in charge of day-to-day operations of the Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs.
