CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA, Calif. -- Two seaside towns have reason to
celebrate this summer.
Carmel-by-the-Sea is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and
visitors to La Jolla in southern California will find deals offered
in honor of the Grande Colonial Hotel's 90th birthday.
In Carmel-by-the-Sea, the Sunset Theater is holding a Bach
Festival now through Aug. 10, and photos and other town memorabilia
will be on display at the Marjorie Evans Gallery through December.
Located about 120 miles south of San Francisco, the town has long
been a refuge for artists and writers. To this day, there are no
addresses, parking meters or streetlights.
In La Jolla, guests of the Grande Colonial boutique property
will pay $90 on the third night of a prebooked, three-night stay
through Dec. 20. (Be sure to mention the hotel's anniversary.)
Visitors to the hotel will be entered into a drawing to win a
California Historic Hotels Tour. The prize package includes an
eight-day tour of three cities, including air fare for two to each
destination; two nights at the Fairmont San Francisco; two nights
at the Millenium Biltmore in Los Angeles; three nights at the
Grande Colonial; dinner for two (one night); and $1,000 in spending
