Aruba tourism exec to head Palm Beach County CVB

Jorge Pesquera, the head of the Aruba Hotel & Tourism Association, has been tapped to serve as the new president and CEO of the Palm Beach County (Fla.) Convention & Visitors Bureau.

An industry veteran, Pesquera, who will take office on Nov. 1, previously served as president and CEO of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau from 1994 to 2004 when he moved over to the AHATA.

Pesquera will succeed Jim Stuber, who for the past several months has served as the bureau's interim administrative director.

Stuber, the CVB's outside legal counsel, was brought in after it was discovered late last year that the bureau's controller had embezzled nearly $1.5 million over a three-year period.

That revelation led to the forced resignations of the bureau's long-time president Warren "Mac" McLaughlin, as well as the controller and vice president of finance.
