CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico -- Auberge Resorts, an operator of luxury
hotels based in Mill Valley, Calif., is in the process of building
a mixed-use tourism development here.
The 17-acre resort, called Esperanza, will comprise a 50-room,
all-suite hotel with a spa; six additional freestanding hotel
villas and two restaurants as well as 80 privately owned, oceanview
villas called the Residence Club.
According to a company spokesman, the entire project will cost
about $65 million.
He said the resort will be located on the bluffs of Punta
Ballena overlooking the Sea of Cortes and its oft-photographed
archlike rock formation.
The resort will be a 10-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas and 20
minutes from the colonial town of San Jose del Cabo.
All of the villas are scheduled to open in June.
One model villa is complete and available for viewing.
The 50-room hotel and spa, the two restaurants and a bar are
scheduled to open next January in time for the busy winter
The hotel rooms and suites will be commissionable to agents and
will feature original artwork, custom-designed furniture and
personal touches, such as complimentary fresh fruit and tapas, said
Rates at the hotel will start at $550 per night, double, and
jump to $6,000 per night for a three-bedroom suite that will
measure close to 4,000 square feet.
The 80 villas are for sale to private owners and corporations
and will not be rentable to individual visitors, according to the

A concierge service will arrange excursions for guests ranging
from golf outings at any of the nearby championship golf courses to
scuba diving and fishing expeditions.
Other hotel amenities and facilities will include four swimming
pools, two private beaches, a tennis complex, boutiques and an
on-site market and cafe selling specialty foods.
