Australia implements 10% goods and services tax

A new 10% nationwide goods and services tax went into effect in Australia July 1 that will be passed on to tourists who pay for packaged tours, hotel rooms, domestic airline tickets and any other goods and services.

International and domestic air fares bought overseas are exempt. Domestic air fares bought in Australia are subject to the tax.
