PORTLAND, Ore. -- For most travelers, simply going to Vietnam
qualifies as an adventure.
Avanti Destinations, based here, unveiled a package that
showcases the highlights of the destination while offering comfort
The six-night Best of Vietnam program, which is priced from
$2,349 per person, double, is available from 13 departure
Participants will stay in first class and deluxe accommodations
Air transportation is aboard Cathay Pacific Airlines.
Included are local transportation, transfers, services of
guides, tours and meals.
The package, which is available year-round, focuses on such
highlights as the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the Quan Thanh Pagoda and the
Ngoc Son Temple, all in Hanoi, and the Imperial City, the Forbidden
Purple City, the Citadel and Thai Hoa Palace, all in Hue.
Participants also will be able to visit two imperial tombs, one
of which commemorates the Emperor Tu Duc, known for his inability
to produce an heir despite having had more than 100 wives.
Destinations with more recent historical significance include
China Beach and Ho Chi Minh City.
Four extensions are listed:
* A three-night Halong Bay cruise leaves from Hanoi and features
visits to such coastal sights as Quang Nihn and Hang Kenh Tapestry
* A daylong cruise affords passengers a glimpse of more than
3,000 islands, featuring sandy beaches and grottoes.
The extension is priced from $564 per person, double.
* A trip to My Son/Hoi An departs from Danang and takes in the

Participants also will see the Phan Rang and Thap Cham ruins as

The Mekong Delta River trip, which also departs from Ho Chi Minh
City, includes lunch at the home of a local family; a visit to
botanical gardens and markets, including one that floats, and a
trip to the temple and museum of Bat Pagoda.
