BMI British Midland, Virgin roll out agent incentives

NEW YORK -- BMI British Midland and Virgin Atlantic Airways recently made moves to slash consumer prices and boost agent incentives.

For example, Manchester, England-based BMI offers commissionable travel passes that make flying between the U.K. and Old World conurbations an affordable alternative.

(Britain's excellent railway connections to continental Europe, via the Channel Tunnel, are increasingly the intercity travel mode of choice for many FIT travelers and some escorted tour participants.)

Of interest to agents, BMI pays 5% on its Discover Europe Airpass, which offers flights between any of its 30 destinations, priced from $109 per segment, before taxes and surcharges.

One-way trips of under 500 miles on BMI from London's Heathrow to Amsterdam; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Dublin, Ireland; Edinburgh, Scotland; and Paris, cost $109, while longer flights to continental destinations farther afield, such as Copenhagen, Denmark; Milan, Italy; and Nice, France, cost from $159 to $179.

Students ages 12 to 24 and seniors over 55 receive a 10% discount, and frequent flyers accrue Virgin Atlantic and United Airlines miles.

For information, call BMI's agent help desk at (888) 755-7725.

Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic teamed with Future Vacations of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to offer travel agents one free ticket to London for every six passengers booked by June 30 on the tour operator's air-inclusive packages to the British capital.

Travel must be completed by July 31, and there is no cap on how many free tickets may be earned.

In addition, Future Vacations is paying up to 15% commission on each Virgin Atlantic package booked electronically or by phone, depending on agency consortium affiliation.

To book, call (800) 456-2323 or visit www.vacationaccess.com.
